Sleeve freewheels are one-way couplings, consisting of thin-walled, non-cutting outer rings with clamping ramps, plastic cages, pressure springs and needle rollers. They transmit torques in one direction and are radially space-saving. The freewheels are available without and with storage.
Sleeve freewheels are very precise in terms of gearshifting, as the individual suspension of the needle rollers ensures constant contact between the shaft, needle rollers and clamping ramps. They allow high switching frequencies due to their low mass and the associated low moment of inertia of the clamping elements. In addition, they have only a low idling friction torque.
Sleeve freewheels can be used in various applications, eg as stepper gear, backstop or overrunning clutch. Here, the sleeve freewheel takes over the overhaul function or the holding function.
